Caring in Challenging Times: Strategic Plan 2009-2013

The Alzheimer Society of Ireland's Caring in Challenging Times: Strategic Plan 2009-2013 sets out the organisation's strategic priorities under six key themes.

Priority Theme One: Consolidation and development of dementia services nationally.

  • We aim to be the leaders in understanding and providing dementia-specific supports and services that are quality driven, rights-based and hold the person with dementia and their carer at the centre.

Priority Theme Two: Enabling the voice of the person with dementia and their carer.

  • We aim, through all our contact, to consult with, listen to and enable the voice of those living with dementia to be heard. Specifically, we will develop and active, rights-based grassroots movement that gives those with dementia and their carers a strong effective voice to bring about positive change in their lives.

Priority Theme Three: Making dementia a national health priority.

  • We aim to ensure that dementia is recognised as a health and social care priority and an integral part of all public policy and planning processes in Ireland.

Priority Theme Four: Focussing on volunteering.

  • We aim to be the first choice organisation for people of any age wishing to volunteer time, energy or expertise. We recognise and value that volunteering and active-citizenship are central the the ethos and functioning of The Society.

Priority Theme Five: Providing information, raising awareness and addressing stigma.

  • We aim to bring about positive change in the experience of living with dementia through maximising understanding, providing information and addressing the myths, stereotypes and negative perceptions of dementia.

Priority Theme Six: Corporate developments to include developing the organisation's structures, governance, finance, fundraising and human resources.

  • We aim to develop and maintain an organisation that has good corporate governance, policies and organisatons structures to meet the growing needs of The Society.
