Pre Budget Submission 2011

During September and October 2010 The Alzheimer Society of Ireland rolled out a national and localised lobbying campaign surrounding our Pre Budget Submission for 2011.

There were two strands to our activity of campaigning, firstly a national launch and secondly through the roll out of constituency meetings at ground level.

The Pre Budget Submission launch took place on Thursday 7th October at Buswell's Hotel in Dublin. The primary aim was to secure attendance from TDs across political parties and to encourage debate and interest in our Pre Budget recommendations.

Speakers on the day included Professor Dominic Trepel, a health economist at University of Limerick who presented research findings highlighting how acting now on dementia services will determine both moral and financial long term benefits, click here to read his report.

Maurice O'Connell, CEO Alzheimer Society of Ireland spoke on behalf of the Society and called for no cuts to community services in Budget 2011, click here to read the Alzheimer Society Pre Budget Submission.

Carer Bernadette Brady powerfully retold her experience caring for her mother living with dementia. She recounted how critical The Alzheimer Society home care service was to her and her mother during that time and Bernadette continues to be a strong advocate on behalf of The Society.

We then initiated the rollout of local constituency meetings across the country specifically targeting TDs in their local clinics. We delivered them with a consistent message deom The Society that there could be NO CUTS to ESSENTIAL community services and asking them to support the demands in our PBS within their own political party.

To support this campaigning activity we developed a lobbying resource pack to help people campaign on behalf of people living with dementia. If you would like to order a pack or would like to register as a campaigner in time for our Budget 2012 campaign please contact Helena O'Donnell, Public Affairs on 01 207 3801 or hodonnell@alzheimer.ie
