Dementia Manifesto 2007-2009
The Alzheimer Society of Ireland’s Dementia Manifesto 2007-2009 lays out a three year strategy of positive solutions and targeted investment in order to meet the needs of individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
Urging ‘The Time for Action is Now’, the ultimate conclusion of the Manifesto is that dementia - which affects more than 40,000 people in Ireland and also impacts directly on their carers and families - must be recognised by government and policy makers as a National Health Priority.
The Dementia Manifesto forms the cornerstone of The Society’s political lobbying campaign outlining solutions to the inadequate and disjointed policy, planning and service issues impacting on those living with dementia. It offers a clear, achievable and realistic blueprint for change including a call on the State to invest €105 million over the next three years to care for people living with dementia in Ireland.
The Dementia Manifesto 2007-2009: Making Dementia a National Health Priority was published in February 2007.
The Dementia Manifesto is accompanied by a report 'Implementing Policy for Dementia Care in Ireland - The Time for Action is Now', by Professor Eamon O'Shea.
