I'm a Carer
This section is for people who are carers, family members and friends of people with dementia.
A person with dementia can often feel vulnerable and in need of reassurance and support. The people closest to them can help but often need support and reassurance to do so. The Society works to try to ensure that nobody is living with dementia in isolation.
No two people experience dementia in the same way and as a result there is no one way to provide care and support. The information below is intended to provide practical assistance and suggestions to help with the range of areas that may arise when living with dementia.
Living with dementia and / or becoming a full time carer inevitably brings with it many responsibilities and challenges. Adjusting to the diagnosis and to the changes that happen as the condition progresses can be challenging and stressful. We may grieve for the losses that dementia inevitable brings, yet there can also be times of great love and joy. Having a network of family and friends who can help and support you is very important.
Finding out as much as possible about the condition and preparing for the future can help to reduce stress.
There are services and supports that can bring many benefits to both the person with dementia and their carer or family.
